Understanding the Basics of the Law of Attraction

For many of us, finding happiness, success, wealth, and peace is a difficult and sometimes impossible process. Our lives are hit with a constant barrage of stressors, obstacles, and distractions that keep us from achieving our goals. The Law of Attraction posits that how we feel is directly responsible for the tangible realities we face each and every day. At its core, the Law of Attraction can be explained like this: if you feel positive, then positive things are going to happen to you, but, if you feel negative, then negative things are going to happen to you. Of course, there are numerous other intricacies involved in the Law of Attraction.

The Law of Attraction is considered a universal law that many individuals have followed for centuries. It was recently popularized in a book (and film) entitled The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. The “secret” is essentially that you can create your own positive outcomes simply through the use of positive thought. It suggests that everything that happens to you is a direct result of your thought processes, beliefs, and ideas. Even small moments that don’t seem to have much cosmic significance are thought to be brought upon simply by the way you think.

For instance, if you happen upon a new restaurant that becomes one of your favorites, then the Law of Attraction was at work. You sent out positive thoughts into the universe and were rewarded by finding an eatery that suits your needs. Of course, the Law works both ways. If you are stuck in a whirlwind of stress, anxiety, or anger, then you may attract additional negativity into your life.

Using the Law in Your Favor

The Law of Attraction is effectively at work all the time, but that doesn’t mean it’s always working in your favor. If you really want to make the most of the Law of Attraction, then it’s important to get into the appropriate headspace. In The Secret, Rhonda Byrne talks about three basic steps to getting what you want. These steps are:

  • Ask
  • Believe
  • Receive

According to Byrne’s philosophy, you must first ask the universe for what you want. This includes envisioning it, writing it down, or doing virtually anything to make it as prominent as possible in your mind. You also must genuinely believe that your request will be heard and acted upon. You have to get rid of all the doubt and skepticism that might be clouding your mind and truly embrace the powers of the Law of Attraction. Once you’ve done that and the universe delivers, you must then be open to receive what you asked for. You can’t expect to sit around and wait for your desires to be fulfilled. In some cases, opportunities will present themselves, and you must seize those opportunities.

It’s also important to relax your mind. Make sure that when you focus on your goals and desires that they are at the forefront of your mind. It is very easy to become derailed by doubt. But, if you truly believe in the Law, doubt will be a thing of the past. You will even start feeling like you’ve already been granted your wishes. When you achieve that supreme feeling of certainty, the universe will be more able to manifest your desires.
